About Dr Tamsanqa Mazibuko

Dr Tamsanqa Mazibuko is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in trauma and pelvic orthopaedics, who has joined Mediclinic Sandton. With extensive experience in managing complex musculoskeletal injuries, he is particularly recognised for his expertise in pelvic and acetabular trauma, where precise intervention can have a life-changing impact on patients.

Dr Mazibuko completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Pretoria in 2006, before progressing through his surgical training. He obtained his Fellowship of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa (FC Orth (SA)) in 2015 and completed his specialist training at the University of the Witwatersrand.

He has built his career within high-volume academic and public healthcare institutions, serving as a consultant orthopaedic trauma surgeon at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital since 2015. His work has focused extensively on the management of severe orthopaedic trauma, including complex pelvic and acetabular injuries, where outcomes are often uncertain and require both technical precision and careful clinical judgement.

Dr Mazibuko finds his greatest professional fulfilment in the transformative nature of trauma surgery. Many of his patients present with debilitating, and sometimes life-altering injuries. Through both surgical and non-surgical interventions, he is able to help restore function and independence, often enabling patients to return to work and regain a sense of normalcy. He values the opportunity to witness this progression firsthand, from initial injury through to recovery, and the renewed hope it brings to patients and their families.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr Mazibuko has played a key role in advancing orthopaedic trauma care. He was instrumental in establishing the Pelvic and Acetabular Unit at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, contributing to the development of specialised care pathways for complex injuries.

He is also actively involved in academic research and professional development, with publications and presentations focusing on trauma surgery and pelvic injury management. His ongoing engagement with international conferences and specialist training courses ensures that he remains at the forefront of evolving techniques and best practices in orthopaedic trauma care.

Outside of his professional life, Dr Mazibuko enjoys staying active through running and gym training. He also has a keen interest in classic cars, particularly collecting and restoring vehicles, and is a regular attendee at automotive shows. His appreciation for craftsmanship and restoration mirrors the precision and care he brings to his surgical practice.

With his extensive experience, specialised expertise, and commitment to improving patient outcomes, Dr Tamsanqa Mazibuko brings both skill and dedication to his practice at Mediclinic Sandton.
